Dj Getbusy, a.k.a Ranger
was born in Guyana in 1981 and moved
to Toronto in 1994. I grew up listening
to soca and reggae. Such artists as
Bob Marley, Eddie Lovette, Ken Lazarus,
The Tradewinds, Baron, Byron Lee have
had a tremendous influence on my music
career. My first introduction to the
music scene began in high school,
where I hosted the morning radio show.
At the age of 19, I began experiencing
Toronto’s vibrant nightlife
and attended the hottest local clubs.
Kid Finesse, Dr.Jay, Spex Riddim Track
Master and Dj Starting from Scratch
are some of the finest and most talented
DJ’s in Toronto of which I had
the privilege of being exposed to.
I then began promoting for clubs such
as Essence, Union and Fluid.
My love for music continued to grow
and I decided that I wanted to begin
mixing my own music and get involved
in the Dj aspect of the music industry.
In 2005, with the assistance of an
old friend, his basement became my
studio where I mix down all types
of reggae riddims using his Technics
Vinyl Turntables. I then began djing
for small house and hotel parities.
The first time I was able to showcase
my talent for a crowd of over 600
people was at a school reunion. Since
then I have been playing for crowds
of over 500 and have expanded the
genres of music in
my collection. However, most of the
jams I play at are old school reggae
and soca. I am currently live on air
each and every thursday 8:30-11 on
www.bounce-fm.com and www.pepperpotradio.com.
