Errol
Achue - Mas Band Leader
Being Trinidadian, I have been involved
with Trinidad Carnival at an early age
and have played Mas with many of the
prominent Bands. This gave me an opportunity
to help in producing costumes for the
annual Carnival celebration.
In
1969 my wife Betty and I migrated to
Canada and were instrumental in formation
of ‘Tringo Club’ which was
specifically a sports club catering
to other West Indians residing in Toronto.
In
1989 as the President of the club we
decided to produce a Band for the annual
Caribana parade which enabled us to
promote our Trinidad culture in Canada.
After
being President for 18 years, I resigned
from Tringo Club , and registered “
Mas Toronto” a Non Profit Association
in Toronto specifically to produce a
Band for Caribana.
Being
a Band Leader in Toronto for the last
19 years has been extremely fulfilling
considering ‘Mas Toronto’
is now being recognized as one of the
top bands having placed no lower than
fifth in the last 11 years.
My
daughter Alicia who has been “Mas
Toronto’s” Queen for the
many years will soon being taking over
the leadership of the organization.
